To maintain security during daily operations, it’s critical for businesses and individuals to build safe systems, solutions, and processes that align with current best practices.
Connectech is here to help with solutions designed to keep your data, devices, and network safe.

Backup and Disaster Recovery
To keep your data safe, Connectech recommends multiple redundant backups for both our residential and business clients. For Apple users, we typically recommend a Time Machine backup as a first line of defense, supplemented with a cloud backup solution. For Windows users, the Windows Backup app (included with Windows) is a good starting point, or there are numerous third-party backup solutions available. For some clients, we may also recommend a disk duplication/cloning solution to provide bullet-proof disaster recovery and data loss prevention.
Malware, Adware, Spyware Removal
Adware, malware, and spyware is a prevalent threat for users at both the home and office.
Adware typically opens a pop-up window that looks much like a system dialog box, warning the user (falsely) that their computer is infected and to call a specific phone number (conveniently provided) for help. This is a scam designed to obtain the user’s credit card number.
Malware, short for malicious software, is any software designed to disrupt computer or mobile operations, gain access to a computer, or gather personal information.
Spyware is software designed to gather information about a person or company without their knowledge.
If you believe your computer has been infected, Connectech can assist in removing the nefarious software. Often we’re able to perform remote diagnostics on your computer to get you up and running again quickly and safely.
Password Management Solutions
We recommend that all of our residential and business clients use password management software. Password managers let users collect all of their passwords and other important information in one secure place, protected behind one strong master password that only they know.
We’re experts at installing and supporting 1Password for both individuals and groups, along with Dashlane and LastPass, but can assist in deploying and providing training for most any password management solution on the market.
USB Security Keys
Google’s G Suite, along with a number of other cloud services, offer support for USB FIDO U2F Security Keys. This simple key functions much like a regular physical key, but it relies on high-security, public-key cryptography. Durable and conveniently sized, a user can just slide the key out of its protective sleeve and insert it into a USB port. The key will work with any website that supports the FIDO U2F protocol, including Google Gmail, Google Apps, GitHub, Dropbox, and Dashlane. A USB security key is the perfect complement to 2-step verification solutions, and can be a useful tool when a user is unable to enter a code to sign in from a smartphone.
Biometric Access Control
Facial recognition and retina scans may sound like futuristic sci-fi notions, but a number of companies are currently working on developing methods like these for user access to computers, locked doors, and safes and lock boxes. Connectech primarily focuses on providing support for Apple’s TouchID solution (integrated into iPhones, iPads, and the newest MacBook Pro models with TouchBar) as well as ApplePay and 1Password. However, we also recommend and support other third-party solutions for creating secure biometric access control on a number of computer devices.
